Poznan University of Technology comprises nine faculties, with over one thousand university staff working in their institutes and departments. The university conducts broadly developed R&D activities as well as education classes on 16 courses of regular studies of the first and second level and on 14 courses of extramural studies of the first level and 12 - of the second level. In general, over 20 thousand students are educated at PUT. Since 2006/2007 academic year, Poznan University of Technology has transformed hitherto existing doctoral studies into so called third level studies.

Poznan University of Technology defines its mission as educating high-class specialists and conducting research in numerous technical disciplines. In order to realize this mission, the University actively participates in the process of propagating broadly understood technical culture in a way that is practical and comprehensible at the same time. The motto of PUT activities is "Technologies in a positive climate" .

The Laboratory of Intelligent Decision Support Systems headed by Prof. Roman Słowiński has been delegated to by the University to participate in the enterprise. The Laboratory is a part of the Institute of Computing Science, one of three institutes of the Faculty of Computer Science and Management. Its predecessor, the Institute of Automatics, was established in 1970 as a part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In 1988 it was renamed to the Institute of Computing Science, Automatics and Robotics, and it finally shaped up to the current form in 1990 as a result of separating the Institute of Computing Science from the faculty. Since 2001 Institute of Computing Science has belonged to the Faculty of Computer Science and Management.

The Institute employs over 120 persons, including 5 full professors, 11 professors and habilitated doctors, 49 senior lecturers and scientific assistants with a doctoral degree.
