24.04.2007. The first Microsoft Innovation Center in Poznan conference is already over! More than two hundred of participants of the meeting entitled "Modern Technologies Closer To Us" had the opportunity to learn about the current MIC tasks as well as its future plans.

The PAS Science Centre in Poznań building experienced a real crowd. The first participants had appeared quite a long time before the registration was started! The conference started almost punctually, several minutes after 10 o'clock as the organizers wanted to give a chance for the latecomers.

He gave Brazil as an example of a country where the MIC network has been developed on an especially satisfactory level. Ronald Binkofski promised the development of Microsoft Innovation Centers in Poland as well (both increasing their number and expansion of these that already exist, namely in Poznań and in Łódź). The next lecturer was Norbert Meyer, who gave a general overview of the activity of MIC in Poznań.

Before the set of technical sessions the participants could refresh themselves a bit during the coffee break. At the same time the organizers were extremely busy in order to handle numerous requests of media representatives (TV and radio stations, press journalists and Web portals - about 25 accredited teams). Among others, Prof. Jan Węglarz, Ronald Binkowski, Norbert Meyer, Bartłomiej Prędki (PUT) and Karol Wituszyński (Microsoft Poland, responsible for maintaining relations with academic circles) were interviewed.

The technical sessions began with a presentation given by Piotr Siwczak and Marek Zawadzki, (both PSNC) who described the reference architecture for hosting services that is installed in PSNC. The services are offered with no charge mainly for the education sector. Then the floor was given to the members of PSNC Security Team. First, Gerard Frankowski introduced the program of free security audits conducted by MIC and then Błażej Miga described the issues of secure access to WWW services basing on Microsoft solutions.

After lunch, sessions that containing live presentations of prepared systems and solutions began. As it usually happens in such cases, the organizers were not able to avoid some technical problems. In spite of that, the participants were very interested in the presentation given by Bartłomiej Prędki and Jerzy Błaszczyński from the Institute of Computing Science of PUT, who work on the remote telemedical consultation system. They were followed by Jakub Gorgolewski (PSNC) who showed the results of PSNC Network Services Department work on applications basing on the Media Center platform.

Then came a short summary, a draw of several prizes (some of them were given during the presentation to those participants who were the fastest to answer the question asked by the presenter), quite an exciting trip to the new PSNC server room and the first Microsoft Innovation Center conference was over. Will we hold the second one? It seems that it is not the right question, taking into account the level of interest shown by the participants, we should rather ask how soon the MIC partners will decide to prepare the next event.
